Speedworks joins forces with Unipart as team targets tin-top success
Speedworks Motorsport will race into its sixth season in the high-profile, ITV4 live-televised Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) with momentum on its side in 2016, having attracted the support of prominent automotive brand Unipart as a key partner.
Speedworks will continue to field talented young gun Tom Ingram in its Toyota Avensis in the immensely popular, all-action BTCC – commonly regarded as the world’s most fiercely-disputed tin-top series. Not only that, but buoyed by a brace of breakthrough podium finishes in 2015, the Northwich, Cheshire-based outfit heads into the fast-approaching campaign with a spring in its step and a maiden victory firmly in its sights.
Unipart (http://www.unipart.com/) is no stranger to the high-octane world of motor racing either, having previously been associated with some of the most legendary names in the sport. With its Unipart Autoparts division focussing on the automotive aftermarket and car / commercial vehicle component distribution, Speedworks Team Manager Amy Dick is enthusiastic about the potential synergies of the new relationship.
“It’s fantastic to have such a prestigious and iconic brand as Unipart on-board and to be bringing such a well-regarded household name to the BTCC,” she acknowledged. “They will have a strong presence at race weekends, and we are very much looking forward to working together over the coming months – with lots of exciting activities and opportunities in the pipeline.
“We are proud to be carrying the brand’s logo on Tom’s Avensis, and we look forward to securing Unipart plenty of primetime television exposure as we battle for the leading positions in Britain’s premier motorsport series.”
One of the joint activities to which Dick refers will be the Automechanika show at Birmingham’s NEC, immediately after the squad’s home race weekend at Oulton Park in early June. Unipart Autoparts Managing Director Tony Sackett agrees that the company can benefit greatly from its involvement with one of the UK’s most respected race teams.
“We are delighted to be supporting Speedworks Motorsport this season,” he affirmed. “The Unipart brand has long been affiliated with motorsport, and we are excited to be continuing this with Tom and the rest of the Speedworks team. Tom enjoyed an impressive year in 2015 and as with Unipart’s former partnerships with the likes of Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Allan McNish and David Coulthard, we envisage a very bright future for him.
“The BTCC has grown significantly in recent times and with its loyal fanbase and extensive TV and media coverage, it offers us a superb platform from which to promote the long-established Unipart brand and the newly-launched Unipart Autostore.”
Speedworks’ full 2016 livery will be revealed at the BTCC Season Launch at Donington Park on 22 March, ahead of the Brands Hatch Indy curtain-raiser on 2/3 April.
